EARLY CHILDHOOD: Developmentally Appropriate Programming

· New brain development research has shown that the brain holds the most capacity to change in the first ten to twelve years of life, but loses that ability at different intervals over time. Therefore, the brain must receive certain stimulation within a prescribed amount of time to avoid losing its ability to develop to its full potential.

· Early care providers who are not using the most up-to-date developmental research in formulating curricula are depriving the children they serve of valuable educational tools that are necessary in maximizing developmental potential.

· Voices for Children supports continuing training requirements for early care providers. Participating in training is the most effective way for early care providers to obtain new techniques for enhancing activities for children based on the new developmental research.
