HISTORY

Since the founding of our organization by Executive Director Kathy Bigsby Moore in 1987, Voices for Children in Nebraska has addressed a variety of issues, including:

  • economic well-being
  • early childhood care and education
  • education
  • foster care and adoption
  • child abuse and domestic violence
  • health, physical and behavioral
  • nutrition
  • juvenile justice

Voices for Children is the only independent nonprofit group working to document the condition of children in Nebraska.

Over the past 20 years, we have grown our reach to include thousands of individuals and organizations across the state. Our seven staff members work to positively impact the lives of all Nebraska’s children.

Parenting, family income, child care, foster care, child abuse, health, adoption, and juvenile justice have been strong components of our Voices for Children agenda. We are the Nebraska representative for the North American Council on Adoptable Children and an active member of Voices for America's Children.

Children don’t work on political campaigns, rarely talk to the media or testify in the judicial or legislative process and often can’t keep themselves safe, nurtured and healthy. Many children don’t even have a significant adult in their life capable of meeting their daily needs, much less speaking out for them. Voices for Children in Nebraska gathers information about those areas of need and disseminates that information to people who can make a difference in the lives of all Nebraska children.” - Kathy Bigsby Moore, Executive Director
