You have heard the saying, “If you give a child a fish, you feed him for a day. But if you teach a child to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.” But Voices for Children realizes that teaching a child to fish does him no good if he doesn’t have the tools and opportunities to become a successful fisherman. He needs access to an affordable, quality fishing pole as well as opportunity to fish in a well-stocked, pollution-free lake. System advocacy, like that which we do at Voices for Children in Nebraska, is about working with lawmakers, state and private agencies and concerned citizens to ensure the poles are in working order, the lake is stocked and that all children have opportunities to succeed.
